Deep into the end of the Segmentum Tempestus hidden from the God-Emperor's Scourge, bathed in the faint, flickering, bruise-colored light of the distant cold nebula eyes of the veiled regions, lies the small and reserved Katorga System. In axis from the leading lights of Beorklos and under the dying Kruban star, a brilliant blue giant of immense size and power, the system lay dormant away from the Emperor mercy and lost to itself.
The system is sparsely inhabited for its size, has little in the way of resources, and no known archaeological or anthropological sites of interest. Its few habitable death world planets lies halfway between the cold stars and the vast ice fields at the edge of the system or near the home to a relatively young and burgeoning Imperial colony call Drobolovski IV found few light years from it.
The Katorga system consists mainly of gas giants, barren rocks with trace atmospheres and the aforementioned ice fields, a treacherous, ever-shifting expanse of ice asteroids the size of moons that ring the system like walls of snow.
Beyond the barrage of ice navigation hazards are cramped with asteroid fields and heavy gravity tides. This hard navigation has turned the system into something of a lost cause in such backwater for the trading hub of Drobolovski IV. While the outer system has been exhaustively charted, and the planets surveyed for any available resources, the inner system of Katorga hide its past secret dreadfully well. The ice fields, known colloquially as The Frozen Reaches in its centers, remain largely unexplored due to their treacherous gravity tides and the ever-shifting ice. What little is known about them revolves around the void lost super-massives gas giant of Karanoks that broods at the inner limits, holding close any secrets it may known on its surrounding deep void neighborhood.
Sadly, the peace and quiet enjoyed for generations of Drobolovs is about to be brutally shattered. Savage Orks have massed on the borders of the Katorga System, banding together in the wilderness of the reaches for an assault on the far-off distant settlements of Botrosk and Garvug. Planetary Force have gone largely unanswered, and rumors are that even the Imperium has abandoned the people of Drobolovski to their ugly fate at the hands of the greenskins. Only the hazards danger of the Katorga System is now preventing the advance of the green hordes within the sector.
