The 'Sons Of Dorn' Novel have for story the recollection of three man coming from different background with unfinished business the chance to be brought amongst the 'Imperial Fists' and live amongst the stars. Being train as scout by a seasoned 10th Company Captain we follow them throw their first real mission and discover their potential on the field of battle.
The author 'Chris Roberson' have written this story as if he was 'Rogal Dorn' himself... without emotion, sensation or real passion. The book feel like a first draft story where you are always hoping for more and discover that what you were looking for in term of zeal have already passed before your eyes. The enemy is faceless, without any real warped background and feel to be there in name only. The story is found to straightforward without any deep twist and tagging along the lecture we are in tails with what is to come up next.
The 'Imperial Fists' have a certain irony to their background literature when we look at the chapter itself. In the known world outside the Novel itself we can find most of their story within other stories written by few other authors. This book was perceive as a chance for the Space Marines fans of this Legion to get to know more directly about them. The infamy feeling of the Novel is that we are simply passing over the details on the chapter inside world and not truly discovering the insights over its own background.
In the end I give the 'Sons Of Dorn' a positive three points for the following reasons; For 'Chris Roberson' to have try to describe the stories and duties of scouts stuck in a defensive position, for the recount of all too well clarity of thought that a defensive Chapter of the Emperor have been entail with, and, for the demonstration of the human pride factor face toward the awkward duties of being perceived as labourers and not fully founded warriors when caught in joining-in the 'Imperial Fists'.
If 'Chris Roberson' would take any constructive recommendation I would challenge him in retaking the power behind is name by scratching the males protagonist found within this book, have those Scouts kill in a two page sentence and do a follow up with brand new fresh characters of the 'Imperial Fists' Legion.
'In the name of Dorn.'
'And Him on Earth!'
'Chris Roberson you are dismiss...'
